Enhancing Employee Interaction in a Steel Detailing Company

I recently joined a steel detailing company where the employees are less interactive. Despite being qualified professionals, they hesitate to engage with HR or management as they are primarily focused on their project requirements. Could you kindly share some simple HR initiatives that could enhance employee interaction and create a more lively and stress-free work environment?

Since you have joined this company recently, first you need to understand the past trend of the HR-employee relationship in the same company. You need to understand the culture adopted by people here. Change management is a big risk that can lead to both negative and positive effects. Before implementing any change, you have to complete your homework. 

I have faced the same challenge in the past where employees did not have good views about the HR department and were not ready to accept any change. For the first month, I observed the environment and then came up with initiatives as per the requirement.

Some Initiatives Taken:

1. Enhanced reward and recognition programs: Started creating different attractive templates for achievers of the week, month, quarter, etc. Share it via mail and notice board as well. Make achievers feel special. 

2. Started celebrating events: Holi, Diwali, Women's Day, New Year, Christmas, birthdays in a month... You can choose any occasion and bring new ideas for celebrations.

3. Games and contests: The best way to bridge the gap is through team-building activities. Once employees start talking to you, encourage them to participate in different games. Add some fun elements to it. A few games I have conducted are: Show me the way, kite-making competition (blindfolded), bamboo race, carrom championship, painting competition, hi-tech rangoli, JAM session, etc.

4. Start one-on-one sessions.

Once you start doing these activities, you will feel the difference, and then your employees will start helping you out to add more fun!
