Dear Seniors, can you give me your opinion or suggestion on my present scenario in my company? I joined as an HR Generalist in my organization, and my journey in this company is one and a half years and continues further. Actually, my role and responsibilities include recruitment, payroll processing, statutory compliance, and employee relations. I have a total of 4 years of experience in the HR department, particularly in a facility management company. Recently, my boss's son-in-law started a new IT company near our office. My boss asked me to take care of his son-in-law's office as well. After discussing with me, my new boss appointed me as an HR Manager for his company. Since it is a newly started IT company, I have to implement various HR processes such as offer/appointment letters, salary breakup, NDA, HR manual, HR policy, PAN, TAN, profession tax, gratuity, health insurance, etc.
I am not very proficient in income tax calculation, deduction, IT recruitment, legal compliance, and IT-related HR works as my HR experience has been mainly focused on handling unskilled labor/wages in a facility management company, including technical staff, security, housekeeping, and civil staff.
My Concerns
1. Is it possible to work for two companies simultaneously?
2. Will my future companies accept my current experience?
3. How can I learn income tax calculation for high CTC?
4. What are the key skills required to handle IT staff?
5. Will this experience be helpful for my future career?
I greatly need advice from senior/experienced HR professionals regarding this matter. Please help me out.

It means you've to set up a new HR department for a new company (IT Company).
Well, Arun, one thing I want to know from you is regarding your statement, “my new boss discussed with me and he posted me as an HR Manager for his company.” What do you mean by this? Are you going to work for both companies? If yes, that is also not good, and how can you work for both companies? Think about it.
But yes, if your new boss (from the second company) has relied on you and is giving you the authority to manage the work of this second company, then you can appoint new HR people or a new HR team for this IT company with prior approval from your boss.
Also, as you know yourself that you have no experience with the duties that you have been asked to perform, but you want to know how to perform them, I would suggest you take the help of an HR Consultant and get the permission of your boss for the same. Only experienced personnel or an HR team can perform these tasks.
Questions and Answers
1) Is it possible to work for two companies?
Answer: It is not possible to work for both companies simultaneously, and you will need the help of other people. You have to get permission from your bosses to appoint a new and separate HR personnel or HR Manager first.
2) Will my future companies accept my current experience?
Answer: You need to ask yourself this first. And what current experience are you talking about? I guess after getting the answer to your first question, you already have the answer to this second question.
3) How to learn income tax calculation for high CTC?
Answer: For this, you just need to start with the SEARCH option. Go to the web or the SEARCH option located at the top of the Cite page and download a calculation sheet of Income Tax and study it carefully. Also, you can get sample salary/compensation sheets from there, which will help you to calculate income tax and other elements of salary as you want.
4) What are the key skills required to handle IT staff?
Answer: For this, you need to go for consultation, which is the first, best, and good option. But if you want to do this on your own, then go through a web search and make your own data and categorize it properly. This will enable you to understand the JD of an IT person at different levels and according to the functions.
5) Will this experience be helpful for my future?
Answer: YES! You have a great chance to learn many things at this stage. As of now, you are the main and authorized person, and as per your bosses' instructions, you are going to set up a new HR department and manage the work of two different companies, which are also from different sectors.
This is a really big chance to learn at this stage, and I would say you are one of the most lucky people to have this great opportunity. You don't need to be scared of anything but to run systematically. If I were Arun Bascon, I would have made the best of this opportunity because the experience you will get at this stage will help you more and teach you many things for the rest of your life and career.
But the most important thing is, which EXPERIENCE? And this will automatically bring you to the first two questions of yours: “Work profile and Experience with both companies.”
In closing this response, I would like to say again that you have to get permission from your bosses first to SET UP a new HR department/team for your new IT company. This is the appropriate action that you will take in this regard.
If you have more questions or queries, feel free to contact.
Best of Luck

Dear Anil, I was really expecting your opinion/suggestion in this regard. You made it. Thank you so much!
This is a great opportunity that I never want to leave. I truly believe I have the potential to handle any kind of issues in the HR department. In my current company, my workload per day is less than one hour only, so time is not a big constraint. I am genuinely interested in working in the IT sector. In this situation, what can I do further?
To be frank, I am not someone who easily walks away from such an open opportunity. I am not looking for two companies' salaries. I need to grow and learn many new things in HR management.
Let's imagine: you are Arun and you are in the same situation. What would your decision be? Please share.
Once again, I thank you for your valuable suggestion.

Dear Anil, One more suggestion, I really hope you can solve my queries. One new employee joined our company today. Previously, I gave him an appointment/offer letter along with a salary breakup. For your reference, I have attached his salary breakup.
Salary Breakup Review
Can you please share your opinion about my salary breakup? Is it correct or does it need some corrections? What necessary actions need to be taken for tax benefits for the employee? Please suggest!
Regards,
