Hi Everybody,
I am working as a Consultant/Client Partner with an executive search firm. Currently, I have over 8 years of work experience in various fields such as operations, sales, etc. My educational background includes a B.Sc and an MBA course (distance education) from Symbiosis Pune in 2003. I was abroad for the past 4 years and completely out of touch with the job market/industry.
Due to family reasons, I can now only take up part-time work assignments. However, I am also gathering information on some HR courses (preferably for 6 months to 1 year) from reputed institutes to update myself with the current HR trends in the industry. I have just learned about the ISTD course for Training & Development recently. However, as I do not have any training background, I am not sure if this would be the right choice for me. Though I would be keen on getting into training if given an opportunity.
I would like to know how I can do a self-audit to determine if there is a trainer inside me. Furthermore, I would also like to know if completing the ISTD course would enable one to get into a suitable role in Recruitment & Training departments regardless of age criteria.
Regards,

Hi,
Thank you for your post. I just created a questionnaire on 'How trainable am I?' Take it and you will figure out.
As far as ISTD is concerned, it is a good career option as it provides a good stamp and knowledge collection. If you are looking to develop skills, workshops by Middle Earth Consultants are pretty good.
You may like to explore the option of training by volunteering your services for an institution. See how it goes, and then you can plan your career...
All the best!

I am a student of ISTD, and let me tell you, the knowledge and networking done during this course definitely help you to upgrade your skills. Now, whether you would want to make your career in T&D, Recruitment, or HR-Generalist would be a decision you need to make. BUT ISTD will surely enhance the training skills of individuals.

Thank you to each one of you for your feedback, which is indeed very valuable to me at this stage. Atul, thank you for your efforts in building a questionnaire. I shall certainly check and revert back. Riyaz and Anand, I appreciate your responses too. I will definitely give thought to the feedback and make the best decision possible.
Is it true that a trainer should have good stamina, enough to stand for 7-8 hours to conduct training programs? What about those who are involved as part-time trainers? Secondly, what does the role of a trainer in a Recruitment and Training function include?
Thanks.
