Hi All,

We are planning for quarterly employee recognition and awards. We will give certificates for good performance. Instead of gift coupons, we want to do something innovative!! For example: Lunch with Business Head, Spend a day with the CEO, etc. Please send in your thoughts on some innovative non-monetary rewards.

Payal.

Hi Payal,

Sigmund Freud said that everything you and I do springs from our motive: 'The desire to be great' (craving for appreciation/importance). Some of the things most people want include: 1. Health and the preservation of life. 2. Food. 3. Sleep. 4. Money and the things money will buy. 5. Life in the hereafter. 6. The well-being of our children. 7. A feeling of importance.

I strongly feel, if you want to appreciate people for their performance, it has to be in the form of 'Money and the things money will buy'. This would keep their family members happy, and if their family is happy, then that would be the biggest motivating factor for them. Alternatively, allow them to spend some time with their family at places like Goa or Kerala.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you, Sheel,

I appreciate your views. We already have many such monetary awards. We are looking at some non-monetary awards, more along the lines of the examples I mentioned earlier. Please help me with some more ideas on the same.

Regards,
Payal.
