Hi seniors and friends,
I have a query. There is a Maharashtra-based factory with 467 workers and 50 supervisory and administrative staff. Is the factory required to appoint a welfare officer? Are supervisory/administrative officers/executives considered in the calculation of employment strength regarding the appointment of a welfare officer as per the Factories Act?
Kindly reply soon.

Dear,
For the calculation of strength in respect of any provision of the Factory Act, total strength is counted, including security personnel working at the gate. Therefore, you have to appoint a welfare officer.

Hello, sir. According to the information provided in your post, if you have 467 workers and 50 other staff, the Factories Act states that if 500 or more employees have been employed on any day in the preceding 12 months, you are required to appoint a welfare officer under the Factories Act. Additionally, you should choose a person as the welfare officer based on the dominant gender in the factory.
