Hi friends,

I am working in an IT company. The company believes in immediately terminating the services of an employee if somebody is not performing well. Is there any guideline or process to be followed by the HR department before terminating somebody? Please suggest how to navigate this process as an HR person.

Give one month's notice; otherwise, terminate immediately by taking some calculated risk. Apply your judgment.

It is always advisable to issue some 'advisory notes' followed by 'warning letters' before taking the extreme step of termination. This shows that you have given a fair chance to your employee to improve his/her performance.

Your actions should always be fair and reasonable.

Thanks,

Suhas Garde

You have to follow the ethics. If you don't have the employee standing rules, first, you serve the notice because they are not working up to the mark. Give them two days' time to explain the reasons. If the reason is genuine and you are not satisfied as per the terms and conditions stated in their appointment letter, consult with the technical head, and ask the employee to quit the job.
