Dear Friends,

In earlier days, the current HR Manager was referred to as the Personnel Manager. However, with various developments in the global landscape, traditional personnel management has evolved into \'Human Resource Management\'. However, some organizations still use designations such as Personnel Manager.

The purpose of Human Resource Development (HRD) is to enhance an employee’s capacity to handle greater responsibilities successfully, through formal or informal means. Any effective HRD program must meet the organization\'s needs. Therefore, management must outline the organization\'s needs, convert them into objectives, and formulate a workable program. This chapter aims to help students understand the basic concepts, principles, and practices of HRD.

Personnel management is workforce-centered, primarily aimed at the organization’s employees - such as recruiting and training them, arranging for their compensation, explaining management’s expectations, and justifying management’s actions. On the other hand, HRM is resource-centered, primarily directed at management, in terms of devolving the responsibility of HRM to line management and management development.

My guest lecture includes brief notes on this topic, which I believe will be helpful for all HR professionals.
