Hi all,
I am a new member of the citehr forum. I have been working in an IT company as an HR executive for 2 years. In our company, we do not have any specific policies for leave management. Can you please provide me with a brief update on the types of leaves we need to define, such as sick leave, casual leave, etc.?
Thanks,
Sangeetha

Hi,
All IT firms are covered under the Shops and Establishments Act, and every state has its own amendments regarding leave policies. For example, we are in Tamil Nadu, and according to the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, employees should be provided with 12 days of earned leave, casual leave, and sick leave annually. It is important to review the laws that are applicable to IT firms to ensure compliance with both employer and statutory requirements set by the government.
With warm regards,
Partha

Hi,
I am also working in an IT company. Firstly, leaves are assigned year-wise, that is, calendar or financial-wise, i.e., Jan to Dec or April to March, and it may be pro-rata wise.
Classification of Leave:
Casual Leave can be assigned - 8
Sick Leave can be assigned - 8
Privilege Leave can be - 26
In our company, CL leaves are not carried forward; they are encashed. Whereas accumulation days for SL - 8 and PL - 93. Even provided SL for those employees who are in the probationary period.
You can also add:
- Leave combination: i.e., while taking a leave, what type of leave you can mix with what type of leave, for example, CL with PL or SL with CL.
- How many days can you take for each leave. For example, for CL, at a stretch an employee can take 3 days, not more than that, and for SL, if the leave exceeds more than 3 days, then a medical certificate should be produced.
- Compensatory off validations can also be given.
- Leave Encashment Period: Within what period the employee can encash his leaves.
May this help you. Thanks,
VS

Leave Policy During and After Probation Period
I belong to a media company. We have a probation period of 6 months. However, we have not allocated any holidays during the probation period. I am new to this field, so could you please help me understand how many leaves should be granted during the probation period and after the probation period? Should these be casual leave, earned leave, or sick leave? Additionally, how many sick, casual, and earned leaves can be granted in a year?
Please reply as soon as possible.
Thanks and Regards,
