Hi All,
I want to know what the future prospects are for a person with an MBA (HR) qualification in an institute. The prospects can be viewed from the perspective of working either in the teaching line or in administration/HRD, or as a Training & Placement Officer. Your views on the above topics are solicited.
Thanks & Regards,

Hello Vishal,
The agonies and ecstasies of an HR person in an institute or higher learning are as follows:
ECSTASIES:
1. Improves domain knowledge.
2. Gains command of the subject of HR.
3. Can apply HR techniques in the college/university/institute like Training, Development Activities, Placement Work, Design of appraisal formats for teaching and non-teaching staff, conduct job analysis, and prepare competency-based job descriptions.
4. More scope for research.
AGONIES:
1. With more teaching experience, the probability of getting a good job in HR in corporates diminishes.
2. Corporates become skeptical of your ability as an effective HR manager because the experience/domain knowledge you possess is theoretical.
3. Though HR concepts are applied in teaching as well, corporates feel that corporate culture is more cutthroat, and academics are much softer. Though this is a misnomer, it is deeply fixed in the minds of corporate recruiters.
4. It calls for a lot of effort/struggle on the part of the candidate to shift to corporates with ample teaching experience.
5. People say that HR teachers can settle as trainers, but that is not all that easy as corporate experiences resurface and eat away at the enthusiasm of the candidate.
