Can my employer write negative feedback on my relieving/service letter? If they do, can I take legal action as this may impact my future job prospects?

Facts:
- I have left the organization after serving a complete 3-month notice period.
- In total, I have served 7 months in this organization.
- There is no misconduct reported against me in the entire 7 months.

Is this a "hypothetical" question, or did your employer actually write what you allege is "negative feedback" despite your comment that there was no misconduct reported against you? You need to clarify this point.

There appears to be more to this story that you have not told us. Why are you assuming that the employer may make negative comments?

The employer has the option to mention the service as satisfactory or otherwise. There is no real legal obligation in the matter; it is about the relationship of the employee with the senior officials. The official concerned cannot be forced to give a favorable remark, but entreaties would help.
