Hi Minarsh,

"Head hunting" is a type of recruiting. It refers to recruiting people for top management levels, such as CEO, Directors, etc. Yes, you are right, some consultants specialize only in head hunting.

Hi,

Adding to the above information, when an employee decides to leave their current organization and join a different one, the perks and privileges are often compensated in the new organization, especially for top management positions.

Seniors, please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Minarsh,

Headhunting is definitely part of recruitment - targeting the right person at the right time through various means such as portals, paper ads, campus placements, or outsourcing to consultants, among others. These are common processes for recruiting people, but there are also innovative techniques to attract the right candidates. This includes poaching competent individuals from rival companies, reaching out to contacts through references, and exploring various unconventional methods.

For instance, some practices may seem amusing, yet they are utilized to secure top talent. Examples include waiting outside a location where a walk-in is occurring to approach potential candidates, participating in interviews as a candidate to entice them to join your organization, or employing traditional methods like calling direct lines. I have even witnessed people targeting the public at busy shopping malls on weekends. All these strategies fall under the umbrella of headhunting. 😊 I hope you have gained an understanding of these concepts.

Hi,

What the books say: "The custom of cutting off and preserving the heads of enemies as trophies."

Slang

The process of attempting to remove influence and power from enemies, especially political enemies.

Informal

The business of recruiting personnel, especially executive personnel, as for a corporation.

The act or an instance of such recruiting.

Headhunting refers to identifying certain persons or categories of people with specific skills and competencies and persuading them to join the organization (this task is done by recruitment consultants). However, nowadays, such consultants are referred to as Retained Search Consultants.

Headhunters tend to be either generalists or specialists in a particular niche. Some recruiting firms also specialize in a geographical region as small as a city, while others recruit worldwide. Niche headhunters may specialize in a specific industry or type of employee, such as medical specialists, information technology professionals, senior-level executives, or sales professionals.

Hi,

Just to summarize all about Headhunting...

Headhunting in today's scenario means to recruit an individual with a particular skill set who is not actively looking for a job. It differs from the regular sourcing from job sites or through references. Headhunting is typically done as follows:

1. Suitable companies are identified by the recruiter based on the job description.
2. Specific departments within these companies, likely to have candidates matching the job description, are identified.
3. The recruiter uses their skills to gather details of individuals in the target department, such as names and designations.
4. The recruiter then contacts individuals who may express interest in the position.
5. If the person agrees, the recruitment process proceeds as usual.

Contrary to popular belief that headhunting is only for senior positions, it can be done for any level depending on the niche skill set required. This task is often assigned to skilled recruiters as companies may prefer not to directly engage in this activity to avoid potential embarrassment. Therefore, professional recruitment agencies are often tasked with headhunting.

Feel free to add anything if I have missed any details.
