I ran a company for two and half years. I had to shut it down. Now I am looking for a job, can I show my company name in my resume mentioning that I worked there?

You can show yourself as the owner of the company (if you were the owner). Be ready to answer many questions - why it closed, what type of product was manufactured/sold, what type of company, etc. The ability to run a company may be highly valued by potential employers depending on how you present yourself. Not everybody can set up and run a company; it is a skill and ability.

You mentioned that you owned a company for 2.5 years, and then due to certain reasons, you had to shut it down. In my opinion, yes, you should mention it on your resume as it could be an advantage for you. Just provide all the valid documents and reasons explaining why you had to close it down after successfully running it for 2.5 years.

I believe what matters are the experiences you gained during those 2.5 years. A good organization is always looking for experienced individuals. With that said, I wish you all the best in your job hunt and new role. Be confident, showcase your leadership qualities, and highlight your problem-solving skills.

With regards,

Dear Anonymous,

If you had owned the company, you can mention that in your resume. Failure as an owner is not a black mark. Be prepared to answer questions like, "What went wrong?" "In what ways could you have done better?" "What are the lessons that you have learned that will be useful to you?" "Were the main reasons attributable to people or technology?" etc.
