Hello All, I will be needing HR experts' advice on this. I am a beginner, or say a fresh person, who has entered the HR domain. As I am from a technical background, I am facing difficulties in growing in this field. The HR manager's first question to me is, "WHY HR? Why didn't you just pursue your own line, or why did you just waste your money on B.TECH if you really wanted to be in HR?"
Because of that, I am not able to explore this field as it is coming with so many limitations for me, as I am not a regular MBA person as well. Yes, I am in this field because of my own interests. I like being interactive with people, coordinating things, communicating with different kinds of people, and reacting to situations. It is a good experience, excellent interpersonal skills, a good friendly attitude, decision-making skills, etc. That is why I like being in this field. Is this field not for me, or will I be forced to follow a path that is out of my creative zone?
To all HR professionals reading this, please give me some suggestions on WHERE TO START FROM. Where can I gather good study material to enhance my knowledge as well?
Regards, Manisha

Developing HR Skills
From your brief introduction, it appears you have been endowed with people skills. By now, you may have picked up HR operations in your unit. Try to get a fair idea of the company's policy in various HR aspects. Then, focus on communication, listening skills, and conceptual skills in HR, such as motivation, human personality traits, counseling techniques, performance appraisal, problem-solving methods, disciplinary action modules, labor laws, incentive & productivity, outsourcing skills, etc.
Advanced HR Skills
Move on to advanced skills such as career planning, succession planning, directive and non-directive interviews, performance counseling, and approaches for increasing human efficiency, etc.
