Dear All,
I am currently pursuing a part-time Master's in Human Resource (MBA-HR) from Welingkar Institute. My current job profile is not related to HR, and I am looking to shift my career. I have been trying my luck for the past year to transition to an HR role within a company, but I am struggling to find proper guidance on how to make this change successfully.
I have noticed that companies prefer candidates who have completed an MBA. My concern is where individuals stand who are still in the process of pursuing their MBA.
I would appreciate your feedback on this matter.
Regards,
Trupti.

I am going to start looking myself after January. I am hoping you will tell me 😉 Honestly, I'll ask around and let you know in a couple of days. Until that time, you could host your CV on job sites like naukri.com. In extreme honesty, for me, I don't really care, as long as it's an HR consultancy, a decent job with patient people who won't mind me asking questions, little pay, and fun. Beggars can't be choosers in my case 😄 Hang on for a couple of days.

Hi Trupti,
I am currently pursuing a part-time Master's in Human Resource (MBA-HR) from Welingkar Institute. By the way, welcome to Citehr.com! I hope this forum turns out to be a great learning platform for all of us.
My current job profile is not related to HR. I want to shift my career. I have been trying my luck for the past year to transition to an HR role in a company. However, I am not receiving proper guidance on how to make this shift happen.
Hmm... may we know your current profile? I guess it must be in customer service or a support function. Maybe you haven't positioned yourself well enough to attract companies' attention. To change to an HR profile, consider managing an internal change within your present organization. This could supplement your learning, and the organization would benefit as well. It could be a win-win situation. Offer your services for HR assignments or start with back-end work. Display enthusiasm and drive, and opportunities may come your way.
I must admit it's not easy, but it's not that difficult if you are clear about what you want to do.
I have noticed that companies prefer individuals who have completed an MBA. So, where do people stand who are currently pursuing an MBA? Companies assume that those who have completed their MBA have more competencies and knowledge compared to those still pursuing the course. I am certain that once you finish the course, more opportunities will open up.
Have a great day.

Dear Trupti,
Even I am MHRDM from Welingkar, I too struggled hard to get into HR initially. But, to start with, you can go ahead with some jewelry manufacturing company where attrition pertaining to all the jobs is very high, and also the industry itself is booming up. Many new setups are coming inside SEEPZ, Andheri.

Dear All,
Thank you for the reply. My company is into background screening of employees. This concept is very new in India. Basically, the companies are outsourcing the education, employment, and references of the newly appointed employees to our company. I am responsible for handling the education checks.
I need to know a few good consultants in Mumbai.

Hello Trupti,
I have seen your message. What is your current profile? It is good to note that you are doing your Masters in HR. Possibly the best way to start is from the bottom by joining an organization's HR department and gradually work your way to the top. You can begin by working under a very experienced person in this field, and I am sure that by that time, you would have completed your Masters as well.
Make a list of consultants specializing in the field of HR. You can even consider joining a Recruiting/Consulting Firm to start. I am sure that you will do well in your career. All the best to you.

Hi Trupati,
You can start off with your career by working on some HR-related projects, which will not only enhance your knowledge about the practical aspects but also add to your experience once you have completed your MBA.
All the best.

Hi,
At present, I am not working for the Background Checking Company. During Employment Background checks, we used to perform the following verifications:
- Education Verification: Contacting the Universities and Colleges to verify credentials.
- Employment Verification: Contacting the Previous Employers, checking the salary, duration of employment, and reasons for leaving.
- Criminal Check: Verifying if the candidate was involved in any criminal activities.
- Address Check.
- Reference Check.
Regards,
Trupti.

Hi Truptui,
The kind of work you were doing initially was very much a part of HR, and you should easily get an HR coordinator job in any of the ITES firms based out of Mumbai.
Frankly, I tell you, you should start applying to companies like ICICI First Source, WIPRO Spectramind, and other BPOs and IT firms. If you are really interested in joining as a recruitment associate in a multinational IT company based out of Mumbai, please write to me immediately at this email address: suryakant.tiss@gmail.com or call me at 9867054832.
And believe me, you are not a chooser (somebody mentioned that beggars are not choosers). I think nobody should carry such kind of attitude. Also, remember that ATTITUDE determines ALTITUDE. So, keep smiling and be ready to conquer the world. Good luck!
