Dear All,

I have recently shifted from a recruitment profile (in a consultancy) to a Generalist role (in a Small Company). After 7 days of joining, the Company is now offering me a Safety and Security role as the need for a person in that role is urgent. However, my reason for changing from a consultancy to that company was solely the Generalist role. I don't want to leave the organization, but at the same time, I want to remain in a Generalist role. Kindly suggest what I should do.

Regards,
Bhavya

Dear Bhavya,

You are an HR professional and are supposed to grow in the HR profession only. If your present company is insisting that you take on the role of Safety & Security, and if you are interested in doing so, no one can stop you. However, working in safety and security requires certain qualifications and training which you may not possess. To work in safety, you should obtain qualifications from a recognized institute. If you do not have the necessary qualifications in safety and security, you may be questioned by statutory authorities regarding how you are managing your current job. It is advisable for you to focus on HR roles and, if you are interested in pursuing safety and security positions, to acquire additional qualifications in that field as well.

Kind regards,
