Key Points for a Stress-Free Workplace

- Conducive work environment.
- Everyone must follow the company's policies.
- Politics-free workplace.
- Respect each individual and give importance to his/her work, irrespective of designations.
- Apart from salary, offer different variable pays and benefits for employees.
- Work-life balance is the biggest factor or cause of stress among employees.

Training and Development

Proper training of all employees to perform their jobs is crucial. "Do not expect from them; first train them" because training has a direct relation to performance and job satisfaction. If job satisfaction is missing, stress is inevitable.

- Outbound activities and games.
- Focus on engagement activities.
- Reward and appreciate employees for even their small contributions (for them, that's their big contribution).

Communication and Interaction

Request your managers and supervisors to interact constantly with their respective subordinates/workers, as human touch and emotional bond are very important.

- Keep an open-door policy, and HR and senior-most managers must be approachable.
- Ensure clear and simple communication across levels.

Generally, employees feel stressed at work when they experience harassment, feel powerless, have a lack of job security, or encounter office politics, among other reasons. There are many techniques to relieve stress. Here are a few simple techniques that I use:

1. Discuss your problem with someone you trust. It helps a lot.
2. Read and share a funny story or a joke with your friend.
3. Buy a good pedometer. The pedometer principle suggests you should walk 10,000 steps per day, equivalent to 5 miles (8.0 km), for an active lifestyle. Whenever you are stressed, check your step count on the pedometer. If it is less, make a strategy to increase your steps. You will feel good.
4. Don't focus on the downside of a situation. Think about the positive things that have happened in your life. Stay away from negative-thinking co-workers.
5. Balance your personal and professional schedule by prioritizing your tasks.

This was all about personal stress management. Regarding group stress management, Ms. Jyoti has already explained.

Understanding Stressors in Our Lives

We live in stressful times. Many of us are holding down two or more jobs, dealing with heavy workloads, and facing unreasonable demands. We often swallow our outrage and frustration due to unfair situations and irrational superiors because we cannot afford to be laid off or fired. Some of us have already been laid off and are struggling to find another job, while others have given up and are coping with unemployment.

External pressures like these are known as stressors. Stressors are the barely tolerable pressures that lead to unhappiness and, eventually, disease.

Some individuals seem unaffected by stressors. They maintain a sense of perspective and humor, staying calm amidst adversity and catastrophe. On the other hand, some people are overwhelmed by even a lesser number and intensity of stressors, leading them to slide downhill, losing relationships, jobs, and eventually their mental and physical health.

Excellent input from seniors!! But I think working hours stress cannot be separated from one's personal life. If one follows certain steps in personal life, this, as well as other sorts of stress, can be avoided. A simple exercise, if done regularly in the morning and evening for at least 10 minutes, can bring about significant changes.

Steps to Reduce Stress Through Meditation

"Sit on a mat, etc., in a straight and comfortable posture with crossed legs. Close your eyes and make no movement in any part of the body except normal breathing. After a few seconds, one will start to see thoughts in the mind. The key is not to think or brood over these thoughts but simply watch them. A series of thoughts will come and go, and one should only observe them without dwelling on them."

By regularly practicing this mental exercise for a minimum of 10 minutes in the morning and evening, peace of mind will ensue as the number and frequency of thoughts decrease.

All the best!!

Hi, try some meditation sessions and breathing techniques; they will be very helpful. Meditation can be done at any time for a minute or two. Just concentrate on your breathing while looking at the tip of your nose or with closed eyes.

Stress means the depletion of mental and physical energy. When there is a depletion of energy in your body, the mind is disturbed. When you work, you spend your energy. So, you need to regain your energy to be stress-free.

Simple Ways to Regain Energy

The simplest way to regain mental and physical energy is by normalizing breathing.

When you are stressed, you get irritated, become angry easily, are afraid of failure, your boss, your future, and become unhappy.

Please try the following simple exercise to normalize your breathing, regain energy, and gain control of yourself and the work situation.

Unless it is an emergency situation, take a 5-minute break from what you are doing, if you can.

You can do this exercise keeping your eyes open or closed, wherever you are.

Exercise:

1. Do deep breathing in and breathing out three times.
2. Now breathe normally and tell your mind that everything is okay as it is.
3. Sit quietly, relax, and count your breathing from 1 to 10. (When you have breathed in and breathed out, count in your mind 1 and so on.)
4. Repeat this three times, starting the count from 1 again.

Just try this once. You will be relaxed, and your energy level will increase.

Practice this whenever your mind gets disturbed or you start experiencing negative thoughts and emotions. Good luck. Be peaceful, happy, healthy, and abundant.

Hi, work pressure and late working hours are very common these days. Being in the profession of HR, our job is to keep our employees happy, stress-free, and healthy because a happy employee is more productive and hence helps the company in increasing profits.

Ways to De-stress at Work

Meditation, exercise, and some indoor games can be a great way to de-stress at work. We have a refresh zone in the office which has a number of games and activities to keep the employees active. These also help them in relieving their stress. Recently, post our company's participation in Stepathlon, a few employees have discovered an interesting way to reduce stress. They go out for weekly walking sessions where they explore new food joints around the office. They have found their way to de-stress at work.

Regards.
