Incident at Nagarjuna Agri Chems Plant
Today, an accident occurred at the Nagarjuna Agri Chems Plant in Srikakulam (AP), June 30. At least 17 workers were injured, five of them seriously, in a major fire that reportedly broke out following a blast at the Nagarjuna Agrichem plant in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district, police said.
“According to the initial reports, there was a cylinder blast which triggered the blaze,” Srikakulam Deputy SP, Mr. Arjun, said without elaborating. According to sources, around 200 workers were present at the time of the accident. All the injured have been admitted to the Srikakulam-based Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences, officials said.
Five fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the fire, which is still raging. However, senior district officials refused to comment, saying they were investigating what could have triggered the fire at the plant situated at Arinam Akkivalasa village this morning.
Nagarjuna Agrichem is a unit of Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals. Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the district authorities have started evacuating people from at least five villages, including Arinam Akkivalasa, Kesavarayuni Peta, Rayapadu, and Boddapadu, situated in the vicinity of the site.
Top district officials, including District Collector Mr. G. Venkatram Reddy, Joint Collector Mr. P. Bhasker, and SP Mr. K. V. V. Gopala, are monitoring the operations.

Safety Precautions for Handling Compressed Gas Cylinders
We all know the safety requirements to be taken while handling compressed gas cylinders. The compressed gas cylinders, which have pressure up to 200 kg/sqcm, have a huge potential energy. They can act as a bomb if mishandled. The precautions include:
• Store fuel gases and other gases separately.
• Ensure a safety cap is provided.
• Identify the gas cylinder with proper labels and colors.
• The shifting is to be done on trolleys.
• These are always to be stored in a vertical position.
We have mitigated one such case in Nasik. I shall try to upload a video with the permission of the owner of the company.
Thanks & Regards,
