Dear Sir, I am going to complete my Executive MBA in HR this year. I have over 5 years of experience in manufacturing industries. As it is a new field for me, I have two questions to ask:

1. What HR role would be suitable for me considering my background in manufacturing industries?
2. Which HR topic should I choose for my project to align with my career aspirations?

Additionally, I would like to know if industrial relations and labor law are integral parts of HR and if there is a good scope for these areas in today's job market.

Your guidance in clarifying these uncertainties would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Sumit, As you have worked in the manufacturing industry, the Generalist role would be a better option. In recent days, Industrial Relations (IR) have become increasingly popular and crucial in major industries, with the trend in IR growing significantly. Union activities are on the rise.

Importance of Industrial Relations

Within HRM, understanding IR and labor laws is vital. Statutory compliance is crucial for the survival of any industry, so it is essential to focus on IR, labor laws, as well as HR activities such as knowledge management, performance management, and career development.

Thank you very much for providing me with this information. I was very confused about IR, as there are many other degrees like MSW, etc. That is why I thought it is not a part of HR or that it would not work for me as I am pursuing an MBA in HR.

Understanding Industrial Relations and Labor Laws

IR and Labor Laws explain industrial disputes very well and also discuss measures to tackle these disputes. For your project, you can consider topics such as Employee Satisfaction, Employee Welfare, and so on.

I am a working professional and will not get time to go anywhere, so I think I will work on my project while working. That's why I want to know what to do in this project. If I get some idea, then if needed, I will compare this information with my company without asking anything to anyone here. This project will give me deep knowledge about HR, which is a totally new field to me. Hope you will help me with this project.
