Hi Folks,

Is anyone in the forum working on rolling out a code of conduct policy? I need to implement one in my organization. I am interested in innovative ways to make the learning process engaging for the employees. The policy is prepared, and how it is presented can greatly influence employee buy-in.

Please provide me with your insights.

Hi,

I am starting the same in my company. The policy to be accepted has to be implemented by the top management. As an HR professional, what you can do is educate employees and help them if they run into ambiguity or make initial mistakes until they get the hang of the policy.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for the reply. However, it doesn't answer my query completely. I was looking forward to receiving inputs regarding the PROCESS part of rolling out the policy. If you are planning to implement it in your organization, please do share with us on this forum the process part and the delivery methods/tools that you shall be using in the process.

Best Regards

To be successful, any program must have the approval and aggressive support of Senior Management. Therefore, a member of top management, probably the Senior HR official, should introduce the program to all employees in a meeting to emphasize the importance of such policy.

The introduction should be in stages, initially starting with all Senior Managers and their reports (Department Heads). At this meeting, comments should be encouraged to uncover any defects in the policy. Of course, this meeting will be held in the strictest confidence. It is not in the company's best interests to have the policy made known before it is thoroughly examined.

If there are no major hurdles, the next step is to introduce the new policy to all employees in a general meeting, if the population is small enough, or in several meetings throughout the day.

The presentation should describe the new rules/regulations, the reasons for implementation, and the possible/probable consequences if violated. Again, questions should be encouraged to assure that all employees have an understanding of the new policy.

After the general meeting, Department Heads will meet with their subordinates - managers and supervisors - to detail how the rules will be applied and the method of correcting unacceptable behavior.

Hope this helps.

One technique that worked for a firm I worked for utilized the concept of a crossword puzzle focused on naming what part of the code of conduct was covered by a stated issue or example. The first 10 people in the organization who were able to complete the puzzle received a $25 gift certificate.
