Any holiday or weekly off falling in between two days or spells of lapsable leave like C.L. or S.L. should be permitted as such only and not counted as leave, subject to the condition that the total number of days of such leave of absence does not exceed the limit prescribed in the leave policy of the organization. In the case of EL, such days of holiday can be prefixed or suffixed to the entire spell of EL, and the intervening holidays shall be treated as EL only.

Counting Sundays and Holidays in Leave

For casual leave and/or earned/privilege leave, intervening weekly-offs/Sundays shall be counted as CL or EL/PL as applicable. However, as per the practice seen in some companies, in the case of sick leave (SL), intervening weekly-offs/Sundays shall not be treated as SL but treated as Sunday or weekly-off only.

Leave Policy and Holidays

The holiday or weekly off falling in between two days does not count. However, leave like C.L. (Casual Leave) or S.L. (Sick Leave) is counted if there are intervening holidays.

In view of administering the leave, every establishment adopts its own leave policy in the absence of standing orders. Therefore, your question should be dealt with as per the rules of your establishment. The employee earns his leave to enjoy in the next calendar year to meet his personal requirements and leisure. There should be a scope by which the holiday can be prefixed or suffixed to avoid misconceptions or depriving the employee of his rights.
