Hello Seniors,

Our factory is situated in Maharashtra, and we have a weekly off on Friday. One question that comes to mind is regarding one of our employees who applied for 2 days of CL for Thursday and Saturday. Can we allow his CL as the intervening day is the weekly off, i.e., Friday? What should I do in this case?

Scenario of PL Application

In another scenario, one of our employees applied for 8 days of PL. During this period, one weekly off and one paid holiday are intervening. Should I give 8 days of PL at a stretch or allocate it like this: PL, PL, Weekly Off, PL, PL, Paid Holiday, PL, & PL?

Please guide me and provide advice on the above query.

Leave Policy and Intervening Holidays

Do you have any leave policy covering the intervening holidays? If so, you need to follow the same.

As per the Act, intervening holidays shall be considered. If an employee obtains leave on Thursday and Saturday, then 3 days shall be considered. PL is the benefit that an employee can obtain anytime. How can the PL intervene for leave? The question is not clear. For details, you can reach me.

Leave Policy Norms

The standard norm for any leave is that any paid holiday or weekly off falling within the leave period is also considered as leave unless there is anything specifically mentioned to the contrary in the leave rules of the organization. For example, if a person has taken PL from a Friday to Thursday, the weekly off is on Sunday, and there is a paid holiday on Tuesday, then it will be considered as 7 days PL, and both the weekly off and holiday will be considered as PL.

Similarly, for CL, in the query given above, 3 days CL will be considered. You can either prefix or suffix your leave with the holiday or off day, but not both.
