Hi Everyone,

My employer is based in Mumbai, and we have a staff of 25 employees. The lockdown here has been lifted, and companies are now permitted to operate at 10% capacity. However, during April and May, there were salary deductions. Even though the lockdown has ended, it has been announced that we will continue to receive reduced salaries for the next three months.

Can I, as an HR professional, provide support to ensure that employees receive their full salaries?

Thank you.

Dear friend,

The salaries and wages are linked to the market scenario and not whether employees work or not. If the market condition is not good, then employees are expected to cooperate with the employer. Therefore, rather than becoming a representative of employees, I recommend you be a representative of the company and convey to the employees how they are expected to cooperate in view of the slump in demand.

Today, businesses are facing a whole lot of problems. There is a reduction in sales revenue. Accounts receivable are ever-growing, and customers are asking for further reductions in prices. Employees who have trouble understanding can go into the field and see how difficult it is to maintain business continuity.

Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar
