Hi, I am unsure how to put this across, but I have two questions that I believe are interlinked.
Interview Rejections at Top MNCs
I work for an MNC organization as Vice President. I have completed my rounds of interviews in four top MNCs, and surprisingly, I was told I am hired and to send across my relevant documents like:
- Salary slips for 3 months
- Increment letter of the current year
- Educational certificates, etc.
However, every time, 7-10 days after submitting my documents, I am informed that my candidature has been marked as "Rejected" or "Unable to take it forward." I am really unsure why this is happening, as all my rounds of interviews were, to the best of my knowledge, successful.
Past Appraisal Incident
Another instance occurred about 6 years ago in my previous organization during the appraisal time. We used to have a manual appraisal process where every month from January to December, we had to sign a physical copy of that month's delivery done, and ratings were given accordingly. Just to bring my appraisal down (so-called Bell curve process), my manager tore off four of my physical sheets (signed by me) and replaced them with forged ones, as I had a strong rating throughout the entire year. When I raised this to HR, he repeated what my manager wanted him to say, and a group of 4-5 managers started pestering me to sign the final appraisal sheet. I denied, and I threatened them that if they continued, I would report to the INDIA HEAD HR. They immediately changed my rating from NEEDS IMPROVEMENT to STRONG.
Now, can someone from the HR team or relevant experienced personnel help me understand:
- Is it possible that all my rejections at top MNCs (stated in Line Number 1) could be related to this?
- Do management or HR have the right or the possibility to ruin someone's career just to hide their mistakes?
- How can I verify if there is any database being maintained and my career is being ruined and spoiled?
- Is there a way I could take action against individuals involved in the previous company? If so, what's the provision and the way to proceed on this?
Please, for heaven's sake, help me understand how to get this issue fixed, changed, and challenged.

Reasons for rejections by outside organizations
Reasons for rejections by outside organizations can be many—ranging from salary issues to background verification problems. Negative feedback may also be present. No one can definitively explain why all four organizations have rejected you while you are already working in an MNC at a senior position. You need to conduct a self-analysis of potential reasons and work on addressing them.
At your level, HR departments in the interviewing companies typically do not play a significant role in rejections unless there are documentary inconsistencies or negative feedback from references, or even less than highly positive feedback. Regarding the second query, time has passed, and there is not much that can be done now.
Self-analysis and career progression
It is common for people to try to conceal their mistakes, and HR professionals are not exempt from this natural human tendency. Sometimes, perceptions about an employee can hinder career progression. Self-analysis of your interactions and work relationships is crucial. While someone may excel in their work, they may not necessarily contribute to growth due to lacking emotional intelligence and personal relationships, which can influence how they are perceived.
Try to determine if any missteps have occurred and rectify them. In the professional world, situations arise where competent officers or leaders are overlooked. It is essential to learn from failures and make suitable changes in attitudes, interactions, etc., to address and correct such occurrences.
