Hi, I am working in the pharmaceutical industry in Bangalore as a Trainee-HR. I wanted to know the leave policies for trainees because in my organization, there is a 1-year probation period during which I don't have any leaves.

So, friends, please suggest me the leave policies.

Look at the leave rules present in your state. Do you have to make a policy or are you supposed to make a policy? Also, you have casual leaves, sick leaves, and earned leaves for the number of days you have worked. You may like to look at the state rules for them.

Dear Akshatha,

As per the Shops & Commercial Establishments Act in Karnataka, all employees, irrespective of probation/trainee/confirmed status, are entitled to 10 SL/CL and for every 20 days worked, 1 EL.

Please prepare the leave policy accordingly as per the act. Any organization should provide more leaves but should not reduce the existing leave entitlement.

Thank you.

Hi Aksha,

If you are an on-roll employee of your company, then you would be entitled to the minimum leaves as per the Shops and Establishment Act applicable in Karnataka state. Beyond that, it depends on the company's discretion how many leaves an employee can avail during the probation period, irrespective of the designation.

Do revert in case of further queries.

Regards,
Ashutosh
