Dear HR professional\'s, could you please advice on my case,i done my degree in 2008 and now I\'m working for an IT industry continuously for 5 year\'s, before current organization i was doing my own business, now i wish to move forward with new technology carrier aspirations. kindly advice how do i show the gap / [own business] between before join into the current organization and my year of completion [ people are suggesting show it\'s as teaching experience, really i do not wish to show fake experience ]?. Will my profile will qualified if experience has gap?. I\'m looking forward your valuable advice and guidance.
Note: when i joined into current org., i\'ve not shown any experience.

Why did you quit it to have a service?

Was the self employment related to current/aspiring profile(s)

There are different reasons for people to have gaps in their career. I have a gap in my academics and it becomes obvious because of the years very evidently presented on my CV. Many people ignore, many of them do not ask assuming that I might have had to repeat a year, a few ask for clarification which I really appreciate as my reason for a gap was very different.

It is always better to initiate and inform the prospective employers instead of allowing them to cook up their own stories.

You have a genuine reason.

Another thing if you think that since you failed and hence the prospects may doubt your strategies it is not so.

Each one of us have different perspective. You need to show the positive in your profile, highlight those, share the reasons for pitfalls and change. Tell them how engaged you are to the job and how you previous self-employed experience helped you to here.

Dear friend.. I think you don't have to feel worried on this ground. The first 4 questions that Ms. Ankita has asked you are very relevant. I have about 25 years of experience in Industry and have interviewed several people who have experience gap on their resume. Generally HR seniors look at the connect between work you did, competencies you deployed, concepts you learned, skills you displayed in the years while you were not in active employment. If they see a connect of these aspects to your aspirations and the current job in hand, they definitely consider you for new role. I appreciate that you are sincere to decide about not giving fake details. This trait will help you in long run... In short mention those specific details (work done, competencies deployed, skills acquired) during your experience gap that are related to and are potentially favorable to the job you wish to apply for..
