Based on my understanding of the leave policy, it typically includes 6 days of Sick Leave (S.L), 6 days of Casual Leave (C.L), and 15 days of Paid Leave (P.L) per year. However, since I have recently joined a software startup company, I have been informed by my manager that the policy here includes 5 days of S.L, 5 days of C.L, and 10 days of P.L.

I am seeking clarification on whether this proposed change to the policy is applicable or not. Please advise if there have been any updates to the standard leave structure.

Leave policies are provisioned as per state regulations. A Software IT service usually falls under the Shops & Commercial Establishment Act and is observed as below in terms of CL, SL, EL. [CL and SL would be utilized by an employee from the joining date].

- CL can be taken for 12 days during the calendar year and lapses if unused by the year-end.
- SL can be taken for 12 days and does not carry forward to the next calendar year.
- Conversely, 15 EL is allotted to the employee only after completing one year of continuous service (an employee should have worked for not less than 240 days in the preceding year). Leave can be encashed for 8 days in a year. However, the company pays 15 days wages/salary in lieu of Earned leaves at the time of Pongal, subject to the availability of 15 days leave. Otherwise, the balance leave can be encashed.
