Being a State Act, the leaves under different Shops and Establishments Act will differ. As per the Kerala Act, an employee is eligible for 12 days of CL and 12 days of sick leave during the 12 months, and also 12 days of earned leave after 12 months of working. In addition to these, leave for sterilization is 6 days for men and 14 days for women. Earned leave can be accumulated for a period of 24 days. However, unlike the Factories Act, there is no provision for encashment of leave while on service under the Act. But an employee leaving the establishment is expected to take home the cash value of the leave to his credit.
