Before starting the canteen service, please visit the hospital and collect the particulars of average In-patients, their helpers, out-patients, number of employees in the hospital, what is the nature of medical services the hospital offers, etc., Unless the hospital is very big and a seperate block is provided for cooking, you have to cook the food from outside and serve at the hospital. The same can be registered as per the Catering Establishments' Act and minimum wages are applicable to be paid as per the Minimum wages Act. The employees are to be clinically checked periodically for water borne diseases like Amoebias, etc.

Thanks Venkat for your first positive reply.
I have collected the details. Its small hospital and there are 18beds totally, 8 internal employees and there is no separate room available for cooking as of now. I have to prepare the food and supply at the hospital and this is my first business.
I have more confident to start this business. Will it be a profitable ? after spending for travel charge/ Driver charge/packing charge etc.
What should be my next action.

Dear Nishanth 10

Please refer to your copy of the appointment orders available with you. Generally any company do not allow their employees to run any business on their own and a clause in this regard is mentioned in the orders itself. In such a case do not get yourself directly involved.

Regarding the details of the proposed hospital, it would become viable only if you have the cooking place nearby the hospital so that the transportation time and cost are minimum. It would also enable you to provide food in hot condition. Since the number of persons is less, maximum 44 food at any time (18 patients, 18 helpers and 8 employees) initially you have to do with service motive only, keeping the number of your workers at the minimum of 2 (one for cooking and transporting and another at the hospital for serving and cleaning) Over a period of 2,3 years, you may be able to gain on expansion of the hospital. Otherwise a tie-up with nearby hotel would be better. Any way you will gain experience.

All the best.

Hi Venkat,
Yes, I have decided to start this business on my wife name. Looking for a good time as of now, before that,
We will consider that I got a place in the hospital itself. Same I will request to my friend Dr.
Then.....
1. What are all the other legal side formalities that I needs to be followed ?
2. If company name is must then how to approach ?
3. To whom I have contact to full fill this formalities ?
5. Approx how much I should invest in capital.
6. What can be the minimum food rate that I can offer ? or Should I follow the food control department rate if any ? if I keep rate than the normal 10 to 12 Rs for an item ?
7. What are all other hidden charges is in the list in this business ?
Please provide your reply under each questions. It will help me to guide in correct direction. Thanks for your time venkat.
Regards,
Nishanth A
