A professor in my class recently claimed that being an HR manager and a female, there will be no job for me in the industry.
So, it would be really nice if the community can help me with some data w.r.t. the growth of HR in India and gender composition of the industry.

It seems he is a kind of Male Chauvinist who is not ready to accept the role, value and contributions of Female into our HR world and become an important part.
Even I’v numbers of HR peoples in my contacts and knows numbers of Female HR Mangers, HR Executives from around the world. Also for your information I wud like to say that we Cite People have numbers of FEMALE HR PROFESSIONALS on this place viz MS NABOMITA, MS ARCHANA and many Female professionals who have a good contribution and big name in this HR profession/HR World. Im a Man, I can’t deny this truth even Im glad to have them and accept their presence here on CiteHR and in our HR world.
Well I would suggest you to please ignore this completely and concentrate on your study, do study hard and join our HR world. Let this kind of peoples know your value…Best of Luck!!

I dont think that Females has less chances or no chances in HR field, Infact it is being said that females are more appointed for HR dept if compare to males.. Today in corporate world you can see nothing like male or female importance, what matters is His/Her capabilities and approach.
Note my words, If you are having zeal and interest you can reach Heights..

I think you have a thing to prove to your Sick Prof, who has commented so. I can proudly say that being a male, I have seen so many good HR managers who are ladies. Their dedication and knowledge on the job is nothing less than anyone. And as a lady, your opportunities in jobs in HR are very bright. So don't worry. Just work hard and prove that prof wrong!! Dear Rishika,
I am not surprised by what your professor has said. Because I had similar such experience just an year back. We hired a girl through campus from one of the reputed management institutes in Chennai, for my team.
Few months later during a casual discussion she said she was curious to know why I hired her - from amongst the final 5.
I gave my reasons as below:
(a) Though you did your UG through correspondence and though you scored only II class, I was convinced with the reason you gave. (Her father fell ill and her elder brother was doing his engineering then. Hence she worked as Travel Desk Executive for 4 years to support the desparate financial need of the family.
(b) Because you worked in a service function like Travel, I could figure out from the way you answered to my situational questions that you have a good grasp of people dynamics, handling customers, being assertive without having to be rude etc. These are critical things - and if you are going to have these traits in you, I have a winning team member already in my team.
(c) When I drilled about those testing periods of your life I could not find a sense of frustration or angst. Instead I could see a sense of pride that you contributed to your family's well being. Hence, you did not do her UG through regular did not really matter to me.
When I finished this there were tears in her eyes something that I did not expect. After few minutes she reassured herself and said -precisely for these reasons she was told by her research guide in the past that there is no way she will get a job through campus.
It is sad that we find teachers who cannot help their students dream, think big, create a sense of positivity, help them realize their true potential.
For example, there is nothing wrong in a trainer saying to an aspiring mountaineer "no one has climbed mount everest". But it is absolutey not acceptable to say, "no way you can achieve it".
For a moment assuming what your professor said is true what is more important is not to just tell the reality. It is equally important to say what should be done to overcome it. It is equally important to inspire and say no matter what the circumstances are in life, human beings are bestowed with the spirit to overcome them.
Rishika, while there can be male and female at a physical level, at the spirit level we all are just one. Trust in that and go ahead. Success and accomplishments will come kissng your feet.
