Dear All,
As per the notification of government there are 18 public holidays in 2010.
How many holidays a manufacturing organization can give?
Does any act says about number of paid holidays to be given in a year?
Regards

Notification is given by the state Government for the Industrial Holidays each year. You have to provide leaves on Mandatory days on Republic day, May day, 15th August, October 2nd and the State formation day of respective states. Generally 10 to 12 days are declared as Holidays by the Govt for the Manufacturing facilities/factories. The Labour office releases the list of Holidays for factories.
In case you want excercise any discretion on list of holidays without omitting the Natinal holidays stated above, you need to take approval of the List from the Asst commossioner of Labour without reducing No of days.
Regards.

Dear smi227,
You are asking that how many holidays a manufacturing organization can give in a year & the answer is 'as you can'.You are required to give minimum statutory national & festival holidays in a year if your organization is covered in any of the laws which require declaration of national & festival holidays. If your manufacturing organization is covered under the Factories Act, 1948 & your appropriate Govt. is any of the States then go through that State Industrial Establishment ( National & Festival holidays and Casual & Sick Leaves) Act for grant & declaration of these holidays.
