Definitely communication plays a dominant role ........................if good communication does'nt happen then it might lead to cold wars within the organization and the entire environment and work culture is hampered adversely.

The HR person should be a people specialist...he should have it in him/her to be able to connect/relate to people at all levels and should come through as a person whom people would like to talk to about situations and matters they are uncomfortable or concerned about.
And of course..Communication...is the most important instrument to handle such people related matters.
people being unhappy or acting in a weird manner are matters that are situational and therefore there cannot be one general prescription to take people related matters. Each individual is an independent being and will therefore present an independent set of issues.
Therefore, it is people management supported by good communication skills that will offer true and effective solutions.

One of the points that could be added to this would also be personal grievances in which something can or cannot be done much. Most of the times, it will be noticed that the senior management is really not interacting directly as one would expect. But never the less they would be open to a feedback. In such cases, we as immediate bosses must intervene, find out exactly the root cause and voice out the issues. Though macro management is not something within our control, micro management is.
I have come across many such situations regularly where I see that my team member tells me that they want to put their papers. In fact it hasnt happened out of the blue as we frequently interact with them to see that they are in the mental and physical state to put in what is required of them.
So though the larger picture cannot be in our limits, the smaller portion definitely is

Well look here fellas what have we got here great discussion on Employees acting wierd :icon7::icon7:

and most or almost all term the problem to be with employees only and no one ever relates it with HR, seems all think HR is most perfect person on earth :-x:-x

So friends we employees will never treat HR as a friend, for us HR is a person who should make our salary, and for our promotion, other things, we have our reporting officer who takes care of all these things. :icon1::icon1:

What I suggest you people is, sometimes you just act wierd, leave apart employees you yourself act wierd once the employee submits resignation, you speak with the employees in a manner as if you are the TOP SECRET OFFICER of some NATIONAL SECURTIY NUCLEAR REACTOR, and just make the employee run from floor to floor for their needs, I have seen so many employees complaining about HR, that even for a single certificate that :-x HR made employee run many times, is this what you have learnt??? :x:x

Always remember as you sow so shall you reap, dont think employees are slaves, give respect and take respect, and any cheating with employees will always turn around you only, so beware :icon7::icon7:

Just be normal with employees , no need to show the fake smile and hellos, when you take rounds, this makes employees more concerned about your behaviour and character (spy, detective, CHAMCHA :icon7::icon7:) and dont show favoritism, by giving increments to only those people who are your friends and taking favor from employees, and recruiting your referred persons only, without bothering to see if your referred person knows ABC or no :-x:-xit is corruption.

So improve yourself and you yourself will observe the change, just dont put the blame and show it as wierd behaviour, you are smart, there is one proverb ,,

you yourself prick the baby and then ask it why it is crying,, mind it :icon7::icon7:

In other words the simplest solution is here
What to do when employees start acting weird and showing signs of unhappiness???
Ans:
if it is only one employee, then make the employee resign
If all employees start acting weird then please resign, because you are unfit for your job:icon7::icon7::-x:-x:-x

Discussion would not always help
An Employee should get smarter to understand
1. What the workplace environment is like (present and past)
2. Most importantly what are the bosses priority
3. What is appreciated, who gets it and how the person manages to get it
4. Know your office colleagues and their areas of work and strengths so as to mitigate or share work in different areas. In case you can develop the quality to identify person for the different work for you boss.
It is more important for an employee to ADAPT to the work environment and follow the basic to know what works ........... rather than getting into the mould that 'this is the way i work'
