Thank you for the great information.
A number of years ago I worked for a company that gave employees "scratchers" (kind of like a lottery ticket) for various types of recognition. With the points accumulated from these scratchers they could then purchase items from the company store (Hats, Shirts, Jackets, Coffee Cups, Golf Accessories etc.) all marked with the company logo. Apart from giving recognicion, they built pride in the company name.
Another company more recently gave employees Visa Gift cards that had the company artwork on them.
Just a couple of thoughts to go with the great ideas already mentioned.

Innovation's other name is change and change is mostly resisted by people. Since HR concerns people ...it is very sensitive and any new practice can be introduced only after a considerable amount of research and study.

Thanx! That was an informative article. In fact I would also like to say that the idea of applying for an award is also a good one. The more reputed an award is, the better recognition your company HR policies would get. This also helps instill faith among employees in the HR practices of an organization, and therefore they tend to stick around for a longer time. However, while SAIL HR award is a renowned one, I would also like to know about some international platforms for HR. Can anyone help please???

I read some of you guys write about the SAIL HR awards. However, as far as i know, SAIL is a manufacturing company. How credible will an HR award be from a manufacturing company? If we are talking of HR awards, i think we should concentrate more on awards given by reputed HR institutes. What do you say?

Hey Ujval ... First the HR needs to rise above its orthodox functions of recruiting, training etc. These are the expected job roles of any HR professional. HR practices would only be considered best if they enhance the productivity of the employees. For instance you assure a quality work life to your employees. Find out innovative ways in which you can motivate the employees such as awards, gifts etc. Also, figure out ways to break the monotony of the work place... for instance you can just take two hours off a day and arrange for the carrom competion. This will be a refreshing factor for your work force. It is also very important that employees have faith in your HR policies. Thats a key to build loyal employees. Hence address to their grievances. Like already mentioned, apply for awards to get your policies benchmarked etc. All this will help improve the quality of work life within the organization....
