Here is a beautiful short story of how a genius after being successful can have a downfall. A must read for all, and more important, the learnings from if and answer the 11 questions. Trust you will enjoy reading and share the learings.
Let Go - The Ego
There was once a learned scientist after a lot of practice and efforts developed a formula and learned the art of reproducing himself. He did it so perfectly that it was impossible to tell the reproduction from the original. Thus was successsful in his formula.
One day while doing his research realized that the Angel of Death was searching for him. In order to remain immortal he reproduced a dozen copies of himself. The reproduction was so meticulous that all of them looked exactly like him. Now when this Angel of death came down, he was at a loss to know which of the thirteen before him was the original scientist, and confused, he left them all alone and returned back to heaven.
But, not for long, for being an expert in human nature, the Angel came up with a clever idea. He said to the scientist addressing all thirteen of them, “Sir, you must be a genius to have succeeded in making such perfect reproduction formula of yourself. However, I have discovered a flaw in your work, just one tiny little flaw.”
The scientist immediately jumped out and shouted, “Impossible! Where is the flaw?” “Right here” said the Angel, as he picked up the scientist from among the reproductions and carried him off.
The whole purpose of the scientist and his formula of reproduction failed as he could not control his pride and lost his life.
So check out friends, while your Knowledge and Skills takes you to the top of the ladder and make you successful, but the three letter word “EGO” will pull you down immediately. Let go your Ego.
Now, Let us ponder on some of our Ego too?
Do I have it?
What is it about?
Why do I have it?
What purpose does it solve?
Whom does or will it affect?
What consequence can it have within your organization/team/colleagues?
What consequence can it have within your family and its members?
How will your relationship get affected because of it?
Do I know people or situations or events where people have fallen because of their ego? What can I learn from it?
How can I overcome it?
What do I need to do to “Let go – The Ego”?
Friends please do share your learning from the above and learn from it.

Dear Peer Mohammed,
Nice one. Actually, there are four types of ego. If we let them out, we will be at our best.
1. I am OK. You are also OK.
(Example: I have passed the exam, and you have too, without comparing the percentage of marks.)
2. I am not fine. But you are good.
(Example: I have failed, but fortunately, you passed the exam.)
3. I am OK. But you are not OK.
(Example: I have passed the exam and completed my degree, but you still have arrears.)
4. We were not good.
(Example: Both of us failed. Why compare marks?)
All these four types have some similarities but are different from one another. If we let go of these four egos, we can be among the best.

Dear Mr. Peer,
The story is good to learn, but is there any life without ego other than a prophet/saint? We are general people, ego is every individual's asset, but it shouldn't be used or shown unnecessarily. It is true that if anyone can restrain themselves from ego, they will certainly find success in life.
Please remember, there are many bad elements besides you who may provoke you to burst out with your ego; keep yourself far from those bad elements.
No ego, no life - No life, no ego = 0.
Thanks,
M. Haque

Hi Peer Saab,
It's a very good post. Here, I would like to mention Eric Berne (not very sure about the spelling of his name), who is a very famous Transactional Analyst and has written several books on the same. One of the famous books is "I'm OK, You're OK." In the book, the author speaks about the four ego states in humans:
1. I'm OK, You're OK
2. I'm OK, You're not OK
3. I'm not OK, You're OK
4. I'm not OK, You're not OK
The best ego state is the first one, which is "I'm OK, you're OK." We all have to strive to be in this ego state, which simply means valuing yourself and others equally.
Regards,
Reshma

Dear All,
It is good to read diverse views on the topic. Is there no life without ego? EGO is edging God out of your life. Try replacing the word "ego" with "self-esteem," and life will become truly meaningful and worth living.

Good one, Peer Sir,
But do we really follow this or can we do it? Ego is like a dog who would smell you and keep following you. I feel that one who works hard unknowingly develops his ego and calls it self-respect, then starts nourishing it. The day one's ego gets hurt, and one comes forward to defend one's self-respect, people call it ego.
Can anybody tell me the difference between ego and self-respect, and when self-respect transforms into ego? Please explain with an example.
Regards

Dear Sir,
This is not ego. This is perfectly anxiety. Ego is entirely different. It refers to someone who is adamant and does not accept others for any reason, such as a boss, a close friend, wife, or a cursed son/daughter.
I am facing such a situation currently. I do not wish to refer to him as my boss or superior. He refuses to accept others and considers them as his subordinates, addressing himself as their superior. In my opinion, that is ego.
In the case of a scientist, it is merely anxiety that someone may find a fault in their invention, which is quite natural. When you have invented something and someone points out a flaw, it is natural for the inventor to want to know. This situation occurred with the scientist mentioned.
