Hi,

If the organization needs to function on a declared holiday, they need to seek prior approval from the concerned authority. The employees who are working are entitled to receive double wages for the day and one compensatory leave.

The existing rule is to pay double the rate to the staff performing work on a declared holiday. And in some states the payment at double the rate and a leave, please check your state rules.

Hi,

It varies according to the state. Employers have to pay double the basic salary based on their duty hours.

If someone's basic salary is ₹12,000 per month and they work 4 hours on a declared holiday, then they would receive an additional ₹462 from their salary calculated as follows: (12,000/26/8)*4*2 = ₹462.

Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan I think compensatory off is only for working on weekly off. Other holidays, they only need to give double rate overtime for working on that day.

The compensatory off is only for working on the weekly off and for the paid holidays too. The rules vary from state to state; in some states, pay is at double the rate or leave is granted. In other states, pay is at the double rate with a day off in lieu. There are establishments with continuous processes that follow flexible NH & FH, where an employee is free to take his quota of holidays as per his suitability.
