Hi, The sandwich policy is a general practice followed by companies and organizations where a usual week off gets clubbed with the paid leave applied by the employee just near the week off and is treated as a leave day.

Thanks

Sandwiching of Leave

Sandwiching of leave refers to the act of marking the holiday intervening between two leaves as 'leave' instead of treating it as a holiday.

Whether a holiday coming in between two leaves should be treated as leave or a holiday will depend upon the type of leave and the nature of the industry. In a factory, the holidays intervening between two 'earned leaves' should be treated as a holiday, and in no way should the said holiday be sandwiched as leave. However, The Shops and Commercial Establishments Acts are silent about the treatment of holidays intervening leaves. The principle is that leaves earned by working for a certain number of days in the preceding year should be exclusive of holidays. At the same time, if you are sick on Saturday and Monday, it should be construed that you were sick on Sunday also. If you have a personal emergency on Saturday and Monday, let Sunday also be considered a personal emergency.
