Dear Seniors,
I need help in understanding whether there is a fixed timeline within which appointment letters need to be issued to new employees. Can I issue it within the first week of their joining, or is it mandatory to issue an appointment letter on the date of joining itself? I tried searching on this topic, but none talked about the timeline, hence posting it.

Hi, An appointment order should be issued on the date of joining of the employee, wherein the employer-employee relationship commences. Alternatively, the appointment order can be pre-dated, mentioning the commencement period of the appointment. All statutory commitments like PF/ESI start from day one, and hence, the employee should be issued with the appointment order on or before the commencement of the work.
