Hello All, Need insights on the pressing issues. Is a woman required to change her surname after marriage to have the same surname as her husband so that there are no legal hassles to settle PF, PPF, gratuity, and pension issues? I have been told many times in the office today that if married, the woman should have her husband's surname or she will land in legal hassle to settle her matters. Can anyone suggest?

Hi, To the best of my knowledge, there is no such legislation that requires a female employee to change her surname to receive statutory benefits as the nominee of her husband. However, after marriage, if a female employee chooses to change her surname voluntarily, it would be advisable to make the change through a gazette notification and update all records, including ID/address proof and the name on the bank account. This proactive approach would help avoid potential complications during the claim process.
