Hello, sir. I am Sanjeev. Currently, I'm working in an MNC company. Due to some emergency, I requested early relief as my mother is undergoing surgery. However, the company denied my request and instead suggested taking 3 months of leave. The surgery itself will take 2 months, and as I am the only son, I need to take care of my mother. I will have to look after her for 6 months, and due to this situation, I am unable to serve the notice period. HR is insisting that I serve the notice period even in this emergency. Please advise me on what to do, sir.

Dear Colleague,
Work-life balance is a very important aspect for all working individuals. It is a tough decision when a family crisis occurs, and leave is denied. However, in your case, it is presumed that 3 months' time is given as leave by the organization, for which one should be thankful. Kindly consider the following options:
1. Whether the medical treatment can be taken in the place where you work, so that you can manage both work and provide the best possible treatment to your mother without risking your job.
2. Whether you can admit your mother and seek help from your family members and those close to you to take care of her and visit her on a weekly basis after the treatment.
3. Whether to take the initial 3 months leave to manage and set everything up for your mother, and if necessary, seek further time to work from home.
Overall, the organization appears to be reasonable in this situation, and therefore, you may find a balance through open discussion with HR and seek their support as well. Such challenges will continue to arise, and resigning every time is not a solution; instead, you need to develop the skill of managing both aspects.
We pray for your mother's speedy recovery, and God bless.
