I would like to know if a worker who was employed in a company for the first five years, which is now closed, and then joined a new company but unfortunately passed away during the nine months of continued work in this new company, should be eligible for the EDLI benefit?

Eligibility for EDLI Scheme

There is no minimum eligibility period of service prescribed in the EDLI Scheme. As the very name indicates, it is an insurance scheme, so the coverage is from the day of EPF membership, and accordingly, the benefit has to accrue.

The family members of a deceased active employee of the Scheme get an amount of 30 times the average salary of the employee, up to a maximum of Rs. 6 Lakh.

EDLI Scheme Benefits for Dependents

The scheme was in force only for two years from 15 February 2018 to 14 February 2020. Now, after that, how can we provide the benefits of the EDLI scheme to dependents? Please tell me in detail.
