Hi, I would like to ask a question about salary hikes. What if a person left their job 4 months ago and has since been selected somewhere else? What should the current employer do? Should they offer the individual a salary increase or rehire them at their previous salary?

Hi Mokal,
It all depends on the company and the person whose desperateness matters to get a job. There are organizations that hire people on a break/sabbatical by offering a nominal/good hike on their last drawn salary.

It all depends on various factors:
1) Whether the employee is a critical resource to the organization.
2) Whether he is a top performer.
3) What is your assessment about his stay in the organization in the future - how long he was with you and how long he has been with previous employers.
4) How you deal with the same situation after one year. Do some analysis; otherwise, it is a risk.
