Hi,

Is there anybody in this forum who would like to come to our organization and give a talk on motivation? Ours is a small software company located in Whitefield, Bangalore. We have around 270 employees. I, as a training coordinator and a trainer, want to organize a talk on motivation for our employees. However, our company is not able to spend much on the same. Kindly suggest if you know anybody who could help me.

Hi,

I would recommend you to be more specific on the topic. This might help you address your operational challenges or provide an eye-opening session for your employees. Explain what led you to the conclusion that your employees need a motivating session.

Hi Vijayakumar,

It's not that our employees are not motivated. However, a session on motivation would further strengthen the motivation towards work that they have. Basically, I could say it could be an eye-opener. Once in a while, having such talks will definitely boost the energy level of the employees.

Hi All,

Sorry, I think I made a wrong statement when I said our company cannot afford to spend much. Rather, I would like to rephrase it by asking if there is anybody who would volunteer to speak without expecting anything in return? I do not know if I am asking for too much, but I believe there is nothing wrong in trying!

Hi,

I would suggest, why don't you do the same? This will be of no extra cost to the company. If the company is willing to spend something, you can arrange some consolation gifts and food for employees at the meeting. A motivational presentation will be the best, which must include stories. Always seize the opportunity.

Dear Reshma,

Your post is as interesting as the release of the next S.L.B's "SAAWARIYA". Tempting, inviting, and a sheer good time is expected, and spending from our pockets in both cases is just icing on the cake!

Dear, you are a software company with 270 people on board. How do you plan for a speaker to address them? In a single go or in batches? If you have a good arena where all of you can be together for a day, I would like to come over!

You can contact me at taruns.india@gmail.com.

Reshma, my understanding is that for motivation, you should become strong and confident. Have you ever read the book 'Wings of Fire' by Sir APJ? Please read that book from start to end or read the articles by NR or Sudha Murthy. If you want those articles, I can send them to you. Try your best. Cheers, Rohit P.

Hi Reshma,

I represent a firm called Paradigm Shift. We are a training and development organization headquartered in Chennai. We have a highly successful motivation program for IT companies. Why don't you have a look at the attachment below and give us a call? Do note that the program will be tailored to meet your specific needs. We can work out the cost factor and ensure that it would be beneficial to both of us.

Rather than making the motivation program into a talk-show, we would rather have the participants learn to motivate themselves through experiential learning. We believe in the philosophy, "Don't be spoken to when you can act." We will, if you're interested, give you a list of the most appropriate facilitators for this program.

Thanks,

Hi Reshma,

First of all, I would like to wish you a very happy Diwali, and may this Diwali bring lots of happiness for you and your company. Well, Reshma, it seems from your statements as if your company is experiencing high labor turnover rates. If this is the case, I would like to suggest a few things.

1. Show the employees inspirational movies like "Lagaan" (although I would recommend the movie titled "The Pursuit of Happiness," the best inspirational movie ever made, or "Enemy at the Gates"). After this, I think half of your problem would be solved.

2. Visit the site makeadifferencemovie.com and show the employees a short inspirational movie of a 15-minute duration.

3. Share with them the story of Google, the life of Bill Gates, or the beginning of Amul (the taste of India).

4. Organize small team-building or fun exercises outside the office to demonstrate the care and concern the company has for its employees.

If you need further assistance, you can email me at ckm4uonly@gmail.com or chat with me at the same email address mentioned (10 am-8 pm).

Thanks,

Great efforts, Reshma.

It will be a pleasure to assist you on this. Motivation Talks are not talks of getting people to do something but getting people to achieve their goals in life.

Let me know if you are still looking for someone. Myself or one of my Principal Consultants can be sent for this. I am not looking at a business opportunity here - it will be great to be a part of your initiative.

Thank you, Sunil.

All of us were looking at it as a glass half full, and you are looking at it as a glass half empty. Not a sin at all; however, positive thinking would help us better than negative. :) :) :)

Hi,

I would suggest planning employee workshops. Additionally, try to identify the motivating factors for individual employees. You can then create a plan on 'how to motivate your employees, assist employees in practicing self-motivation, and track motivation levels regularly'.

I do not believe that an external motivator can sustainably influence employees' motivation levels. The impact of a 'motivation talk' may only last for hours or days.

Best of luck

Hi,

I appreciate that you are thinking about your company employees and their motivation factors. I hope you may have done a few research studies to understand the inclinations and motivation factors of the employees. Each employee has their own set of priority motivation factors.

I would suggest conducting counseling sessions for the employees every week to understand their feelings. If you are the HR head or executive, or in any other position, try to take initiative. I have seen many of the friends on CiteHR mentioning that they are not exposed to all HR activities. Therefore, when you get the opportunity, make sure to utilize it.

I don't mean to imply that you should not bring in external experts to explain and implement motivation processes in your organization. What I mean is, first try to understand and implement the process yourself because you are in the work environment and have a better understanding of things internally.

ALL THE BEST...

Bye,
Sandeep

Hi Sandeep,

Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the responses that I got from citehr, and I have even called and thanked a few of you whom I could reach. To others, I extend my appreciations because I was overwhelmed by the responses. You all have mentored us juniors as a mother hen and always supported and encouraged us.

I am now looking at internal options. I have already proposed to the management about a counseling link where the employees, without displaying their identity, can put forth their concerns. I, having a psychology background, would go forward and do the counseling if necessary.

I have also shown them the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness."

Three cheers to citehr members. There cannot be any mentor better than you guys...not even the bosses 😊😆

Hi,

I think, why don't you arrange an open forum for all the employees or a small get-together where employees can share their problems and you address their issues. If the grievances are solved, then people will automatically feel positively about the organization.

Another suggestion is to implement a thank you card system in the organization. It will definitely work to motivate the employees. The thank you card system works on the following criteria:

1. Make department-wise groups of people.
2. Frame rules for the exchange of thank you cards.
3. Thank you cards will be for helping each other in official work.
4. At the end of the month, whoever receives the maximum thank you cards will get a small or big gift hamper.

This will make a lot of difference in employee morale.
