Hi All,

I am pursuing my M.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Madras through distance education. I had spent 5 years in Training and Development, Counselling, etc. I have handwriting analysis skills as well. Additionally, I am pursuing my MBA in HR from Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar. However, I am currently working as a Senior Associate for Accounts and Finance, which is a different area altogether.

Can anyone guide me on the career prospects in Counselling? What could be my pathway to a bright career and future? Please, guide me.

Thank you for your guidance.

I had been doing counseling for patients, students, and people in general. I did not have much in-depth knowledge about these different areas of counseling. However, this experience has made me think about my choices.

Employee/Child/Psychiatric/Career counseling is something I am interested in pursuing. Can you please guide me further regarding the potential career opportunities in Employee counseling? I am currently pursuing an MBA in HR and have knowledge of Graphology.

If possible, could you share your contact information so that we can continue exchanging our views? You can reach me at neeru.agarwal6@gmail.com.

Once again, many thanks for your guidance.

Hi Neeru,

I have been counseling and supporting people who are depressed and suicidal for the past 15 years. For psychiatric counseling, you need to have a degree in clinical psychology. For other areas, it would be helpful to do a one-year course in counseling skills, which many institutes are offering.

Another way would be to join an NGO that focuses on counseling, such as 'Sumaitri' in Delhi. They provide good training, although it is more about befriending than counseling, but the experience is valuable.

Best,

Thank you, Madhu. Can you please share your profile, including your educational and professional qualifications, as well as your work experience? I believe this information will provide me with more clarity in shaping my career.

Additionally, could you offer guidance on whether I need to make specific selections in my M.Sc. second year of Psychology, considering my interest in counseling?

I look forward to your response.
