Hi Seniors, I need your suggestions. I am working as a Senior IT Recruiter in a reputed firm, and I have 2 years of experience in IT recruitment. About a month ago, I posted my resume on job portals, and I am only receiving calls from consultancies. My current salary is 20K, but when I ask for 25K, they simply say they don't have that budget. Do you think a person with 2 years of experience cannot expect 25K per month? Please suggest, should I switch my career to another domain, or should I continue in recruitment? What will be my future as an IT recruiter?

Thank you.

Sir,

2 years is a very short time for you to take a lead with a high salary. You should consider upgrading your educational qualifications by pursuing a postgraduate degree (PG) or a PhD. This can sometimes be beneficial for your career advancement. Additionally, you may want to participate in training programs such as health and safety at the workplace, etc.

Thank you.

It seems you are in a rush to get a good salary, which is not bad, but at the same time, you need to understand the corporate world. With only 2 years of experience, one could say you have just started your career, so you need to have patience.

Considering a Career Switch

You mentioned that you are considering continuing or switching your profile. As an HR recruiter, you need to be steadfast. Just because you are not getting the desired salary package, should you switch to another profile?

Evaluating Salary Expectations

Here is an honest question: Do you provide/approve the expected salary to all selected candidates? You need to understand the responsibilities of profiles. If you find yourself fitting into the role, then apply. If the interviewer mentions that the budget is not sufficient, you may respond by highlighting your skills and justifying your expected salary.

I hope this post will assist you in choosing a long-term career path and expected salary.

You have to develop your other HR skills like payroll, employee engagement/management, and nowadays the most required HR business partner role. Additionally, you need to gain knowledge about statutory laws to be followed by an employer. These skills will allow you to get a good job.

I am also an HR recruiter and I am getting 25k, having almost 3.6 years of experience in recruitment. However, I have a location issue. IT recruitment is a good career option, but yes, you need to enhance your skills in areas like payroll, benefits and compensation, and statutory laws. Each and every aspect should be at your fingertips. Relying solely on recruitment will not necessarily land you the right job with the right salary; you need to expand your knowledge. Seek generalist coaching, and believe me, it will be beneficial for your career.
