Hi, I am storing around 100 liters of thinners (for epoxy work in the factory) in sealed containers 20 feet outside the factory building. Is it the right method of storage of flammable liquid? Is it allowed?

Dear Jagjeet Singh,

It is not the right way of storing. The best thing you can do is to please refer to the MSDS of those thinners. There must be specific storage instructions contained in the MSDS.

In general, it is usually suggested to keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Please check your MSDS and follow the guidelines provided in it.

Inflatable liquids cannot be kept in the open where there is direct sunlight. Therefore, it is necessary to move it to a shaded place (cool and dry with adequate ventilation).

Also, you need to check the explosives act to see if the quantity you are holding is higher than allowed without a license.

You have to follow the instructions of storage very meticulously. In the event of any accident arising from faulty storage, you will attract Factory Act implications. Furthermore, your claim for damages with the insurance company will be jeopardized.
