Hi, I am Ramesh. I have completed my BSc in distance mode in 2004. After that, I worked for 5 years as a system admin. Later, I also completed my MBA in distance mode in 2011. I got a job as an SAP admin and worked for 4 years. Recently, I came to know that the degree I have obtained is from a blacklisted university. I was not aware of this at all. Now, I want to shift to another company, but I am afraid that during the background verification process, if they discover that my degree is not valid, it could negatively impact my career. I am very concerned. Please help me with what steps I should take.

You can clearly state this fact to the Employer once you get the offer letter. It is not your fault that the university was called invalid later.

Hi Ramesh, I can suggest that you are a very experienced guy. You have to remember that you got the job with the same degree after completing your MBA. If it matters, you wouldn't have gotten it. The university has been blacklisted in recent years. Don't worry, certificates are needed to enter into your career life. After selection, you only need to inform them if they are going for a background check.

Hope you consider my suggestion.

Dear Mr. Ramesh,

Given your extensive experience, your new employer will (and should) be focusing on your skills and knowledge rather than past degrees. However, it would be better and safer to inform them that the university got a black mark after you studied there. Inform the new employer before you join them. Their response will keep the matter clear for all time.

Best wishes,
Ganesh
