Hello everyone, I'm Shagun, a fresher. I joined a listed company as a company secretary a month ago. They did not give me any offer letter. Recently, I faced severe cervical pain, and the doctor has suggested that I take rest. Therefore, I will not be able to resume my work.
When I informed my company about this, they said they would not terminate me immediately and asked me to contact them after a month. My concern is how can I lend my degree to a company for whom I am not working. Also, they will not pay me (not even for the period I have worked). How can I trust these people to release me after a month? I don't have a full idea of how the company operates, so what should I do in such a situation? Kindly guide.

This is how I read your situation.
1) You are qualified. The said company employed you primarily because of that and also because they have a need for the skills—whether by force of law or otherwise.
2) The company not wanting to relieve you need not be taken in a negative spirit at this stage. To me, it just means that they sympathize with your situation and are willing to wait.
3) Your wanting to quit is fair and straightforward.
I suggest you write an email to them elaborating on your concerns that you may not be fit to join within one month (let us at least say so!). The period for which you may have to stay away will depend upon the doctors attending to you and the time you will take to recover fully. It is for these reasons it is only fair that you must separate for the time being, and the company must accept this reality. Promise them that once you are fit, you will make contact with them before accepting any other opportunity.
See what response you get. We will decide the future course of action depending on their response.
Regards,
