As an HR or any ordinary individual, what do you think is the most effective way in attracting applicants in order for you to have the best employees ? I really need your opinion. Thank you.

Dear Jonah Costa,

To attract the right job candidates, you need to build a brand first. The converse of this statement is that to build a brand, you need to have the right people on board. Therefore, it is a chicken and egg situation – which came first?

Initially, with whomever you have on board, you need to give strong focus on customer satisfaction. This will help you grow your business. As far as internal administration is concerned, your administration should be performance-oriented. Lastly, your salary standards should align with market standards. If you pay below market rates, you will end up attracting low-value candidates.

Attracting the right candidate is beyond the realm of HR. For this, your leadership has to play a vital role. If HR is like a foot soldier, then the role of leadership lies in choosing the right battleground. Success is achieved when both HR and leadership complement each other.

All the best!

Dear Jonah,

I'm not sure whether you are positioned in the Philippines or India. I'm not fully conversant with the environment, policies, procedures, methodology, and avenues prevailing in that country. However, for simple questions, there are a few suggestions in addition to what have already been mentioned by experts above. I may add that you have to publicize your requirements, along with job specifications in the media like professional magazines and online portals, which you must be aware of. Nowadays, campus interviews are common when you are looking for freshers. If your requirements are for senior positions, you might as well collect CVs through professional bodies like Associations of Personnel Managers, the Institution of Engineers, ICAI, ICWAI, ICS, and other societies specializing wise. These professional bodies run their periodicals for internal circulation among members and subscribers. Their magazines also have dedicated pages for job searches. If you are looking for a wider spectrum of advertisement, using media, the internet, and blogs is a workable route.

Attracting job applicants might be relatively easy, but attracting qualified and enthusiastic job applicants is a challenge for many companies. Writing the perfect job posting can be one way to appeal to job applicants. However, that's not the only method and not the most effective one for attracting applicants. Achieve the broadest appeal to job applicants with an approach that consists of more than simply posting openings on Internet job boards.

Attracting job candidates may sound easy from a job-seeker's perspective, but companies know that their success depends on balancing recruitment costs with the financial impact of a bad hire. According to HRManagement.com, a new hire carries a price tag worth 1.5 times her salary. Technology has opened cost-effective avenues for advertising; however, taking advantage of it requires a game plan. It is within you, yourself, that plays a big role in how to attract applicants.

God bless you.
