Hi, I am Shruti, doing a summer project in recruitment at a software firm in Bangalore. I am conducting a comparative study on the recruitment process, strategy, potential sources of candidates, etc., among the top 10 IT firms.

Now, my question is: while preparing the questionnaire, what are the relevant questions? Can you tell me some ingenious methods of sourcing candidates apart from employee referrals, newspaper ads, and job portals? What is an application tracking system? How does it work? What are the popular ones?

This is a fabulous site. Please help me out.

Hi Assir,

Nice to meet you. By any chance, are you in Bangalore? Please let me know what your project profile is. I am conducting a survey among 10 IT firms in Bangalore on their recruitment techniques. I am ready to share information if you are too. I am from XIME Bangalore, where are you from? Do reply.

Regards,
Sruthy.

Nice to see your reply.

I am a student of MBA at Pune University in MIT School of Management, Pune. My exams are ongoing and will conclude on the 24th of May. After that, I will be joining Honeywell company, which is also located in Pune. My project there will involve evaluating their entire recruitment process and identifying any potential loopholes. Additionally, I will need to propose more effective recruitment processes to address any shortcomings in the current system. I will also analyze the recruitment processes of other companies to facilitate a comparative study.

I hope for your assistance, and you can expect the same from me, but this will be after the 26th of May due to my exams.

Hi Shruti and Assir,

Firstly, all the best for the project. I am an MBA HR too, almost finished my summer project. As far as I can help you, sourcing can be done through employee referrals, job portals, ads as you said; it can also be done through consultants, campus recruitment, job fairs, etc. I worked on a project in recruitment at MPHASIS last December. From what I learned, first chalk out the recruitment strategy already being followed, then consider improving it. You may use a survey to make improvements. Also, consider the cost, ROI, etc., involved in existing methods and proposed methods. I am not really sure as to what exactly you want. Hope this helps you.

Shweta Challa

I really appreciate your help; this really helps me a lot. I discovered this site by accident, but it is really a fabulous site. I hope you will help me with my doubts. Hi Shweta,

Hey, I am also doing my summer internship at Mphasis BFL in Bangalore. By any chance, do you know someone called Swagata Basu from TAPMI? My guide mentioned that two people had worked on a related project before. My project focuses on new trends in recruitment, and I don't have to conduct a cost analysis. The idea is to explore various methods of sourcing candidates used by firms across the industry, then compare and benchmark them. I hope you can provide me with the necessary guidance. Thank you for replying; it means a lot.

Shruti

Hey Shruti,

I am doing my summers in recruitment for a well-known IT company in Mumbai. I believe we could really add value to our projects through the exchange of information. My project is specifically on recruitment process mapping and sourcing, similar to yours. I would like to know the methodology you have adopted to map the process.

Expecting a quick reply.

Hi Shruti,

An Application Tracking System (ATS) is software that allows you to maintain a database of applicant and job information. This information is useful for finding matches between openings and applicants. The software automates all steps in the staffing and hiring process, saving time and money (although this may not always be the case). It is useful for compliance, reporting, and process efficiency, allowing all necessary players across the enterprise to participate and contribute to streamlining the company's business processes.

An ATS lets you create, post, update, and remove jobs instantaneously, ensuring that job listings are always up to date. You won't depend on a webmaster to keep your job site current - you'll be able to do it yourself. Additionally, an ATS receives and tracks resumes, evaluates candidates, and communicates with them automatically.

The only drawback is that with all the tasks involved in recruiting, an ATS can become complicated and costly very quickly.

Candidates, whether applying through the corporate recruitment website or a third-party job board, will be directed to a one-page online application form for that job. This application collects the most important data for prescreening via a quick and easy interface. All applicants typically receive an automatic email from the software's recruiter confirming receipt.

Most big IT firms have an ATS, though I haven't come across any popular ones to name. Perhaps somebody else could help you in this matter.

All the best!

Hello to all of you. You're missing one of the best opportunities -- and that is to have current employees help you source new ones.

Your current employee base should be one of the best sources of leads you have -- especially in IT, where so many workers are younger in chronological age and have so many friends that are completing their studies.

Here's a nugget worth saving: If your current employees won't assist in bringing associates, friends, etc., to their place of employment, there's a problem somewhere in the organization.

Hello Mr. Alan,

We have employee referral schemes where the employee acts as the best source of a lead. I agree with your nugget: "If your current employees won't assist in bringing associates, friends, etc., to their place of employment, there's a problem somewhere in the organization."

Hi Shruti,

I am also doing the same project "recruitment analysis." I have covered 25 companies to study different metrics of turnaround time. I am on my compilation part, so it would be a great help if you could share your modus operandi to evaluate the best recruitment practices:

1. Sourcing methods
2. Screening procedure
3. Test & interview

Even if you require any help, please get in touch with me at animeshmark@yahoo.co.uk.

Hi Ishita,

I am doing my summer internship with an MNC bank. The company has introduced the EGES scheme (Employee Get Employee Scheme). The company is expanding its business avenues while facing a tight indent market. Various methodologies have been implemented, and EGES is one of them. Under this scheme, any employee can refer a candidate for niche positions at a higher level. If the candidate is selected, the referring employee receives a certain amount of money.

I hope this clarifies some of your queries.

Animesh

Hi Animesh,

I read your reply about your project on rec analysis. Just a query, what metrics are you using for evaluating the process? If there are many points, we can share because I am doing a project along the same lines.

Hello Everybody,

Sorry for not being in touch for a long time. I am working on my project "Benchmarking of Recruitment Process" for Honeywell in Pune. I understand that this project may require me to visit several companies. However, I am struggling to create a flow chart for my process. Can anyone assist me and suggest the steps I should follow to initiate and successfully conclude this project? Even if someone is unsure of the correct approach, they can still share their thoughts or ideas regarding the project.

Hi Sruthy,

I came across your article and learned that you have completed a project on the recruitment process. I am also in my final semester of MBA and could use your assistance on the same topic. I am a bit confused about creating a questionnaire and unsure about the types of questions to include.

If you could provide some guidance, I would greatly appreciate it. Since you have experience with Mphasis, could you share information about the timeline they follow for recruiting entry-level candidates?

Please respond here or email me at <me_aysh@hotmail.com>.
