Hi, I have a query. My father has a PF balance in his account, but he could not claim it because, previously, where he was working, he had given the wrong name—I mean, a spelling mistake in his name. He has been trying to claim that amount for 8 years. What should he do? The wrong spelling is just 2 letters; instead of his name Nagaraj Rao, the PF account has also included an extra 2 letters, making it Nagaraj Rao BY.
Thank you.

Hi You can request the employer to give a certificate/letter for the difference in name which will be suffice to solve this issue.
First, ask your father to submit the PF claim forms (19 & 10C) to the respective HR along with a cancelled cheque leaf. You don't need to worry about your father's name mismatch; it is the company's duty and responsibility to address any name discrepancies.
After the submission of the claim forms (19 & 10C), the employer will prepare a letter regarding the name mismatch, which will be enclosed along with the claim forms (19 & 10C).
I have also attached the claim forms for your reference.
