I have 4 years of IT experience. For my first employer, I worked for 1.6 years, and for my second employer, I worked for 2.6 years. Recently, I got a good opportunity at an MNC company. I joined there, and they conducted a background verification (BGV) check. Unfortunately, my first employer provided negative feedback, resulting in the loss of my job. When I approached my first employer, he mentioned that I was supposed to work for 2 years in his company; however, I had only worked for 1 plus years. This discrepancy led to the negative feedback, he explained.
To the best of my knowledge, I did not sign any bonds related to this situation. A month before leaving the company, he requested that I sign a bond for 3 years with a 3-month notice period, but I did not agree to it.
I am currently facing difficulties being jobless. How should I proceed with my next job? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you have not signed the bond, he doesn't have the right to say your work period is less than 2 years. Ask him which law states that an employee cannot work less than 2 years. It's better to proceed legally if you lost your job for a foolish reason by your previous employer.

If you have not signed any bond or any agreement and your performance was good and can be proven, then go ahead and send a legal notice to him for defamation through a lawyer. Furthermore, call the first employer once more and ask for the reason again, but this time record the conversation as evidence. You can also speak with the HR team at the MNC and explain why the negative feedback was given. Additionally, inform them that you can provide references from your direct manager or colleagues who can attest that the first employer's claims are baseless.
